Glossary for Geospatial Science

nadir:  The point on the ground vertically beneath the imaging sensor.  That is, if you imagine a straight line drawn from a sensor to the center of the earth, the nadir is point where that line intersects the surface of the Earth.  For radar imaging, the nadir corresponds to the beginning of the near range.
