outliers:  Geodata points that lie far from the regression line.  Outliers can be legitimate geodata points that show the extreme variability of the geodata or they can represent errors, such as incorrectly recorded geodata, an instrument malfunction, and so forth.  Researchers drop outliers from statistical analyses when the outliers are shown to be errors because the outliers can skew statistical analyses.
